About Manipuri Dance: Manipur is a small State on the North East corner of India on the Burma border. For over 260 years, this little State has natured and evolved unique Classical Dance styles. The Cultural Heritage of this little valley bordered by Mountains has remained relatively unknown because of geographical reasons. A primitive dance form based on animism existed earlier in Manipur. It’s themes are devotional and are performed on religious occasion and in temples throughout the area. Goudiya Vihnavism form Bengal pervaded this small State and the dance form was then inspired by the devotional spirit of this religion. It is even often referred to as “Sankirtana”. The term Manipuri actually covers a umber of dance forms from the region. The most of the important bring the “Rasleela” and the “Pung Cholom”. The dance style is graceful and subtle and distinctly divided into the Lasya (feminine) and Tandava (masculine) aspacts.
